Conseguir retratos impactantes solo con luz natural es algo mágico. Con ella conseguimos resultados maravillosos que nos ayudan a dar a las imágenes un aura suave y envolvente difícil de conseguir de otra manera.
Un retrato no es una semejanza. Es una búsqueda por penetrar al individuo más allá de su apariencia.
Cualquier definición de retrato tiene que tomar en cuenta la interrelación entre modelo, fotógrafo y observador. Es lo que caracteriza este género. Una teatralización de la identidad.
La idea de algunos, que temen perder el alma al ser fotografiados, es un tópico importante en el retrato:
De alguna manera “el primer derecho del retratado es el permitirse morir dentro de la imagen para ser resucitado por ella”.
Existe un convenio (tácito o explícito) en el que el retratado deja en manos del artista la interpretación visual de su persona.

Las fotografías pueden carecer de sentido hasta que alguien las mira.
El retrato en fotografía tiene mucho de autorretrato. Volcamos en él nuestro mundo interior, nuestra particular forma de mirar y representar lo visual.
Con la cámara igualmente que con el pincel podemos captar la esencia del modelo, conectándolo con el espectador.
